Auto insurance is an agreement between you and your insurer that safeguards you from financial loss due to accidents or theft. By paying a premium, you receive coverage for losses as specified in your policy.
It includes protection for:
Covers damage to or theft of your vehicle because, let’s face it, cars have a way of getting into trouble when you least expect it.
Ensures you're financially protected if you cause injury or property damage to others—because "Oops, my bad" won’t cut it in a courtroom.
Helps cover costs for injury treatment, rehabilitation, and even lost wages or funeral expenses, because medical bills have a habit of arriving faster than an ambulance.
Pays for damages to another driver’s car and their medical expenses if you cause an accident. Texas law requires minimum 30/60/25 coverage, but higher limits are recommended to avoid personal financial risk.
Covers the cost to repair or replace your car after an accident, regardless of fault.
Pays for damage to your car from theft, fire, floods, vandalism, or other non-collision incidents.
Covers medical bills for you and your passengers, even if you’re injured while riding in someone else’s car, walking, or biking.
Similar to medical payments coverage but also includes lost wages and other nonmedical costs; required in Texas unless waived in writing.
Pays for medical bills and car repairs if you're hit by an uninsured driver, an underinsured driver, or involved in a hit-and-run.
Covers towing if your car can’t be driven and provides assistance for flat tires, jump-starts, and minor roadside repairs.
Pays for a rental car, taxi, or ride-hailing service if your vehicle is stolen or undergoing accident-related repairs.
While most basic, legally mandated auto insurance covers the damage your car causes, it does not cover damage to your own car. To cover your own car, you should consider these optional coverages:
Reimburses you for damage to your car that occurs as a result of a collision with another vehicle or other object—e.g., a tree or guardrail—when you’re at fault. While collision coverage will not reimburse you for mechanical failure or normal wear-and-tear on your car, it will cover damage from potholes or from rolling your car.
Provides coverage against theft and damage caused by an incident other than a collision, such as fire, flood, vandalism, hail, falling rocks or trees and other hazards—even getting hit by an asteroid!
Provides coverage from windshield damage, which is common. Some auto policies include no-deductible glass coverage, which also includes side windows, rear windows and glass sunroofs. Or you can buy supplemental glass coverage.
